The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is participating in the statewide Joining Forces campaign to combat impaired driving through June 21.
“The Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety of county residents.” Sheriff Dan Coverley said. “Drunk driving has shattered lives in our community through reckless choices while being under the influence. My deputies are fully dedicated to this Joining Forces effort to remove impaired drivers from our roads. Make the smart choice: plan a sober ride or face the consequences.”
Partnering with 30 Nevada law enforcement agencies, Douglas deputies will increase patrols to target drunk drivers, ensuring safer roads during this busy summer period.
The Sheriff’s Office reports responding to nearly 300 impaired incidents in 2024, many preventable. During this campaign, Deputies will focus on high-risk areas enforcing state DUI laws.
“In 2022, Douglas County tragically lost Fallon Montanucci on Highway 395 to an alcohol-related crash,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to designate a sober driver or use ridesharing and to report impaired drivers to law enforcement by calling 911.
Funded by federal highway safety grants through the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, this campaign addresses the 1,062 alcohol-related crash deaths reported nationwide, according to December 2022 statistics.
