Trials are set in two drug cases, each of which involved two defendants arrested during traffic stops.

The trafficking cases against Jacob Paul Hoffman, 46, and Jamie Nikole Woods, 45, were ordered combined over the objections of Hoffman’s attorney Matthew Ence.

A Feb. 11-13, 2026, trial was set in the case. Both Hoffman and Woods are out of custody.

The couple were arrested on Christmas Eve 2024 in Minden after deputies allegedly found 4 ounces of GHB and 5.8 ounces of methamphetamine in a search of a truck Hoffman claimed he’d just purchased. Woods is represented by Matthew Stermitz.

A mother and son are denying drug possession charges after they were arrested in a May 19 traffic stop in Gardnerville.

Edna Jeanne Walker, 78, and her 48-year-old son Rory Dean Walker are facing possession of a controlled substance charges after deputies allegedly found methamphetamine in the pickup Edna was driving.

An Aug. 27 trial date was set on Tuesday.

Rory Walker is in custody related to his conviction for failure to pay $167,264 in back child support that resulted in a prison sentence.

• A California man on probation in California for possession of a controlled substance for sale, received a suspended 18-48-month prison sentence on Tuesday.

Steven Joseph Valles, 42, is required to participate in a mental health court as part of his probation.

When Valles was pulled over on May 17, 2024, prosecutor Ric Casper said there was cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl in the vehicle along with a firearm along with a teenager.

According to attorney Adam Spicer, Valles wasn’t charged with being an ex-felon with a firearm because he hadn’t been convicted of a felony, yet.

• An ex-felon arrested for possession of methamphetamine was released to a Washoe County hold to learn what will happen to his probation there before he is sentenced in Douglas County.

Thomas Albert Metzger, 48, was stopped May 31 for a traffic violation when the drugs were found.

Metzger entered a guilty plea on June 24 to possession of a controlled substance. Prosecutors are recommending a 12-30-month sentence to be served simultaneously with whatever occurs in Washoe. His sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 19.

Metzger has 11 prior felonies and was last paroled in January 2023 from a 6-15-year sentence for using someone else’s identity and burglary.

The Silver Springs resident was attending drug court in Lyon County after being sentenced on Feb. 25. He’s being held at the Washoe County Jail.

• A man being held on a fugitive warrant out of California entered a guilty plea to possession of methamphetamine stemming from a May 31 arrest.

Zachary John Calderon appeared in Douglas County District Court on June 24 where a 12-30 month sentence is being recommended by prosecutors.

Calderon’s sentencing date was set for Aug. 5. He is not eligible for mandatory probation or diversion, according to attorneys.

• A 62-year-old man’s probation for burglary of a business was extended on June 24 on condition he go to a treatment program.

Richard Glenn Gardner was originally arrested April 16, 2023, for taking $700 in clothes from the Target. Gardner, who has a record of thefts, admitted to the burglary and received a suspended 2-5-year prison sentence May 14, 2024. He claimed he had a heart attack a few months after sentencing, though he neglected to share that with probation officials. They said they hadn’t heard from him for five months before filing a probation violation report. He was arrested May 7 in Reno on the warrant.

• A Las Vegas man admitted he used someone else’s credit card without their permission on Feb. 27.

Daren Ray Flores, 56, pleaded guilty to possession of a credit card without the owners permission on Tuesday.

He faces up to four years in prison, but prosecutors agreed not to recommend a $5,000 fine on condition he reimburse the county $1,258 to transport him from Las Vegas.

A case involving misdemeanor defrauding an innkeeper is pending in East Fork Justice Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 19.

• A man who admitted he was driving under the influence with a child in the car received a suspended 364-day sentence for child endangerment.

Nicholas Mathias Holt, 38, was arrested on Dec. 22, 2024, and admitted to the DUI in East Fork Justice Court where he received a suspended 185-day sentence. District Judge Tod Young ordered that his gross misdemeanor sentence be served consecutively with the justice court sentence. A $2,000 fine was also suspended.
