Genoa, Nev. — A 12-hour red flag warning for gusty winds and low humidity takes effect at noon today. It’s accompanied by a wind advisory at Topaz Lake 2-8 p.m. today. Minden could see 10-20 mph west winds starting just before lunch, with up to 30 mph gusts.

No public safety outage has been announced as of this morning, but that could change as the day progresses for those living on either side of the Carson Range.

Emergency services responded to a vehicle rollover at Jacks Valley Road near the entrance to the Target around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday. I don’t have any information about what happened, though a couple of people told me the vehicle was on its top.

Three-quarters to inch-sized hail was reported 3:45 p.m. Wednesday a couple of miles southwest of South Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service prompting a hazardous weather report. A couple of spots in Carson Valley reported 51 mph gusts from outflow winds over the afternoon.

East Fork Fire Chief Alan Ernst told Genoans that it would cost $2 million a year to establish a full-time firefighting crew at any of the fire stations. It has been a spell since volunteers actually fought fires here, in large part due to increased training and safety requirements.

With the approval of a contract with Dare to Be A Cowboy to manage the Genoa Cemetery parking and trash, Genoans are coming pretty close to being ready for Candy Dance.

There’s not a lot going on this July Fourth Eve. We had to clear the paper early this morning due to the holiday. I’m going to be out of the office today and Friday, but if there’s something pressing, feel free to drop me a line.
