Douglas High graduates Abigail Hamer and Camryn Mclelland each received $2,000 scholarships from the P.E.O. Chapter AN of Carson Valley.

Abigail Hamer earned no grade below A and graduated #1 in her class. She will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in nursing.

Her goal is to pursue a career as an orthopedic nurse practitioner with an emphasis on sports medicine. At the high school, Hamer competed four years on the varsity ski team. As a four-year member of Key Club, she served as both treasurer and president. Hamer also was active in the community, hosting three golf tournaments in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Additionally, she was appointed by the Governor to serve on

the Juvenile Justice Oversight Commission for a 2 year term

recommending changes that should be made.

Hamer continues to work at Great Basin Therapy where she also serves to train various employees in physical therapy techniques and understanding technical terms.

Mclelland is also an athlete and scholar. She

maintained a very challenging academic schedule all four years including numerous advanced placement courses and several courses at the local community college. Mclelland will be attending Case Western Reserve in Ohio to pursue a civil engineering degree, focusing on the environment and construction.

In addition, Mclelland will be playing softball at the university.

She has played softball since age 8, and she played on the Douglas varsity team all four years. Giving back to the community, Mclelland, through Carson Valley Fastpitch, coached two teams and also created free clinics for the next generation of softball players ages 5-14. In all, 72 girls signed up to work with the 10 high school athletes recruited by Camryn.
