Douglas Pop Warner’s Tiny Mite cheerleaders showed off their medals during the Jan. 14 board meeting for placing fifth at the National Cheerleading competition in Florida in December.
According to Tiny Mite head coach Ashley Brown, the squad of 10 girls ages 5 to 8 were the first ever Douglas Tiny Mite team to go to Nationals.
They placed fifth out of 11 squads.
“These girls worked so hard to get there,” said Brown. “They fundraised to get there. They had to keep their grades up to go, and they have been working not nonstop since August to be able to compete there and to do what they did.”
Brown said the team competed against 11 other groups.
Ashley Brown said the team started out with 22 girls and the final 10 consisted of girls ages 5 to 8 years old from Douglas County and Coleville. The team was awarded for their efforts with a trip to Disney World.
