A lone 2.34 magnitude earthquake struck just south of Two Bell Lane in the East Valley, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory.

The earthquake occurred at 12:41 p.m. and was 10.79 kilometers down.

It occurred near a home and residents reported feeling it.

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred north of Yerington on Dec. 9, 2024, was the last time Carson Valley residents had a good shaking.

That spot is still shaking with a 1.2 magnitude quake recorded at 10:16 p.m. Tuesday.

There are faults along the western slope of the Pine Nut Mountains though they aren’t as famous as the Genoa Fault at the base of the Sierra Nevada’s Carson Range.

Fish Springs Flier columnist Linda Monohan wrote about discovering what appeared to be a fault crack near her home in 1988.

Western Nevada is part of the Walker Lane which runs up the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada and is believed to take up a portion of the stress between the North American and Pacific tectonic plates.
