The NIAA realignment committee wrapped up its realignment proposals in two hours Wednesday, approving a plan to slightly reshape the winter sports scene.

All changes are pending NIAA Board of Control approval.

An appeals meeting is set for next week for schools to appeal up or down.

BASKETBALL

Starting with basketball, Northern Nevada Class 4A will have 12 teams instead of nine for 2025-28.

Joining the usual suspects (Carson, Douglas, Spanish Springs, Reed, Reno, McQueen, Bishop Manogue, Damonte Ranch and Galena) will be Wooster, North Valleys and Hug.

All three programs will move up to the 4A North in basketball.

The 3A North will feature some new programs, too, as the region now contains 11 teams — Dayton, Fallon, Fernley, Lowry, South Tahoe, Spring Creek, Truckee, Sparks, Elko, Incline and Debbie Smith (a new school in Reno).

Class 5A will remain a southern-only classification.

WRESTLING

The Northern Nevada wrestling scene will follow the same changes.

Making up the 5A North will be the same nine teams (Carson, Douglas, Spanish Springs, Reed, Reno, McQueen, Bishop Manogue, Damonte Ranch and Galena) now joined by Wooster, North Valleys and Hug.

The 3A will realign the same way it did for basketball, but with 10 teams instead of 11 — Dayton, Fallon, Elko, Fernley, Lowry, South Tahoe, Sparks, Spring Creek, Truckee and Debbie Smith.

For wrestling, Class 4A will remain a southern-only classification.

SKIING

Northern Nevada’s ski lineup will remain in Class 5A and continue with its dual-league setup.

The Tahoe Basin league will be made up of eight schools — Carson, Douglas, Sierra Lutheran, South Tahoe, Incline, Truckee, North Tahoe and Whittell.

The Northern Ski Racing league will include Bishop Manogue, Damonte Ranch, Debbie Smith, Galena, Hug, McQueen, North Valleys, Reed, Reno, Sage Ridge, Spanish Springs, Sparks, Virginia City and Wooster.
