A Markleeville woman was ordered to prison for 19-48 months on Tuesday after she admitted violating her diversion by not turning up for Western Nevada Regional Drug Court.
Leonna Lynn Mortimer, 27, was reluctant when she was ordered into the program as part of a diversion on Nov. 26, 2024.
She was arrested in Carson City on Jan. 18 for possession of drugs and paraphernalia after failing to show up for drug court or reporting to parole and probation.
She admitted to writing $1,725 in bad checks to Sharkey’s in 2023 and failing to appear in court. Her two sentences will be served simultaneously.
She was ordered to return to court after completing her prison sentence to make arrangements to pay restitution.

Rogelio Rico, Jr., 48, was sentenced to probation in August 2022 after he was arrested on May 6, 2021, with around 3.5 ounces of methamphetamine.
• A warrant was issued for a woman who is in custody in Carson City on a probation violation.
Heather Ann Heindl, 30, has been in custody since Jan. 7 in the capital.
Heindl received a suspended 12-32-month sentence for felony attempted child abuse or neglect after her 4-year-old niece tested positive for fentanyl after a Dec. 8, 2022, arrest.
A condition of her probation was that she complete Western Nevada Regional Drug Court.
• A man who failed to appear in court last year was ordered to prison.
Torrell Lashon Montgomery, 35, stole a couple of bottles of tequila, some doughnuts and cookies from the Topsy Walmart on May 26, 2024.
Montgomery admitted to burglary of a business in July with a recommendation for a 12-30-month suspended sentence.
He failed to turn up in court for sentencing the following month and a nationwide, no-bail warrant was issued for his arrest.
Montgomery was arrested in Reno and returned to Douglas on Feb. 2 on the warrant.
Attorney Matthew Ence argued for probation, pointing out that the case was essentially shoplifting amounting to less than $100.
Prosecutor William Murphy agreed that the theft wasn’t the crime of the century. Murphy said that while he could argue for up to five years, he would stick with the 12-30 months but sought that it be imposed.
Young imposed the sentence and ordered Montgomery to pay $90.47 in restitution when he gets out of prison.
• A July 9-11 trial has been set in a year-old drug possession case.
Joseph Phillip Alas, 35, is denying charges he had 80 grams of methamphetamine when he was arrested in a Dec. 29, 2023, traffic stop at Lake Tahoe.
Alas has been in custody since October after he failed to appear in court last July.
He is facing charges of high-level possession of a controlled substance and concentrated cannabis, in addition to the altercation in the jail.
• A March 4 date has been set to determine when a trial for a Gardnerville man who’s accused of selling methamphetamine near a park.
Jeffrey John Gabelman, 63, is denying he sold the drug at his home near Lampe Park on Oct. 15, 2024.
Gabelman is free on bail pending further proceedings.
