A Gardnerville man was arrested last week after Alpine County authorities received a report of alleged sexual misconduct with two children, 8 and 10 years old.
Thomas Humiston, 24, was arrested in Gardnerville on Jan. 30 before law enforcement conducted a search of his home. He is being held without bail in Douglas County Jail.
Alpine County Child Protective Services alerted Alpine investigators they’d received a report that the abuse occurred in the Hung A Lel Tl Native American Community in Alpine County.
During their investigation, investigators learned that the misconduct had allegedly occurred for three years prior in Beltrami County, Minn.
Investigators assigned to the case coordinated their investigation with a Beltrami County Sheriff's Office investigator.
Beltrami Investigators were able to develop probable cause that Humiston committed sex crimes there, too..
Alpine County investigators coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigations due to the severity of the crimes alleged and crimes occurring in different states. Additionally, there was
information leading investigators to believe that Humiston was in possession of or distributing digital Child Sexual Abuse Material.
On Jan. 28, the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Humiston. Charges outlined within the arrest warrant included two felony counts of first degree penetration or contact with a person under 13.
On Jan. 30, Alpine and Douglas Sheriff’s investigators, FBI Agents, and a Washoe County Sheriff's deputy assigned to the Northern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce responded to Humiston's home to execute a search warrant.
The Alpine County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the alleged sexual misconduct by Humiston while he resided in Alpine County.
Additionally, the Alpine County Sheriff's Office thanked the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, FBI, Washoe County Sheriff's Office and Beltrami County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in this case.
