Douglas High School baseball (10-13, 6-7 in Class 5A North league play) fell behind 4-0 in the first inning of its league affair with Damonte Ranch (3-16, 2-12) on Thursday.
However, the Tigers scored six runs over the next four innings for a 6-4 win.
Jackson Ovard went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and his fourth home run. In the bottom of the fourth, Ovard turned a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead with a homer off the portable trailers behind the left field wall.
“We’re not touching him. Whatever he’s eating or drinking, maybe it’s extra sleep on spring break,” laughed Douglas head coach Jim Tucker.
Titus Gocke was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a triple while Jeffrey Peters and Jake Hoover both recorded doubles. Peters’ two-bagger knocked in Hoover in the third inning.
Starting pitcher Grayson Kamper settled in after having some tough luck early. The junior did not allow a run after the first inning.
“It was amazing those last six (innings) how he was able to command the zone and keep those guys off balance,” said Peters.
UP NEXT: Douglas concludes its regular season this week with three games against McQueen (12-14-1, 7-7), Reed (13-13, 6-7) and Spanish Springs (18-9, 9-5). The Tigers will be at home Wednesday in the regular season finale against the Cougars. First pitch is set for 3:45 p.m.
