Snowy weather resulted in the Heritage Park Gardens Spring Forum & Expo moving indoors today.

The Forum is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gardnerville Station in the S-Curve, having moved from the gardens where it was originally scheduled.

It was the first time the forum, which has previously taken place at Gardnerville Station around the first day of spring, was scheduled to take place in the gardens.

Chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires are being required over Kingsbury Grade and on Highway 50 through Douglas County as a late April storm brought snow to Carson Valley this morning.

Snow was still falling across the Valley as of 7 a.m., but it was too warm to stick to the roads.

That was not the case at Lake Tahoe, where NVroads.com showed slushy conditions over Kingsbury Grade between the Valley and Lake Tahoe.

As of 8:10 a.m. road controls are reported through the Sierra over Highway 88 and Interstate 80. Highway 50 over Echo Summit was still clear as of 9 a.m., but that could change as the day progresses.

A winter weather advisory is in effect through 11 a.m. Sunday for the Sierra Nevada, southern Lyon County and Mineral County as a storm wraps around the region.

“(The) heaviest snowfall is expected Saturday morning,” according to the advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Reno. “Snow will struggle to accumulate on roadways during the daytime hours, though isolated heavy snow showers may bring greater accumulations Saturday afternoon.”

Snow telemetry at Heavenly Valley reports 5 inches of snow at 8,533 feet since midnight at 6 a.m. A half-foot of snow has fallen at Hagan’s Meadow over the same period.

Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reported a half inch of snow as of this morning, with similar reports across the Valley and in the Pine Nuts.
