Genoa, Nev. — A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Sierra Nevada and sweeping around into southern Lyon and all of Mineral County from 5 p.m. today through 11 a.m. Sunday. Saturday morning will be the roughest travel time through the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

Trees are being planted in Alpine County, Genoa and Gardnerville today in honor of Arbor Day. The Forest Health Community Working Group volunteer tree planting event is 10 a.m. at Curtz Lake Trailhead. Genoans are planting a tree in the Genoa Cemetery about the same time. Gardnerville will be planting this afternoon.

Genoans are scheduled to conduct the annual town clean-up 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. While the Heritage Park Gardens Spring Forum is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the gardens off Slaughter House Lane in Gardnerville. You might want to check the weather before going as these are both outdoor events.

Indoors, the Douglas County RX Drug Takeback is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Minden, Both WalMarts and the Round Hill Safeway at Lake Tahoe. A reception for artist Ric Rose is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the East Fork Gallery, 1512 Main St., Suite 4, Gardnerville.

Minden is forecast to receive a third of an inch of rain over the next few days, with a little snow mixed in for good measure. This will probably be the last dose of April showers for 2025 and might just help extend the snow pack up top for a bit.

For today, the forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of showers before 5 p.m. with the snow level at 7,200 feet. Today is predicted to be mostly cloudy with a high near 60 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the west at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
