In the fourth inning Tuesday afternoon, Tiger junior Ava Gildea blasted a fourth-inning grand slam as Douglas High School softball run-ruled Galena, 12-1, in five innings.

Gildea finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and five RBIs while Cam McLelland was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. She homered in the bottom of the second inning, plating two of her three RBIs.

In the circle, McLelland struck out eight, allowing two hits and one earned run in five innings of work.

Haylie Pledger, Cam Coats and Peyton Simpson each tallied an RBI in the win.

UP NEXT: Douglas (18-7, 9-3 in Class 5A North league play) will be off until Tuesday, when the Tigers host McQueen (15-11, 6-5) at 3:45 p.m.


FALCONS DROPS OPENER TO PERSHING CO.

Sierra Lutheran High School baseball held a 1-0 lead going into the seventh inning Tuesday in its series opener against Pershing County.

However, the Mustangs plated three runs in the top of the seventh to win the game, 3-1.

Matt Fahey plated Drew Gleiser for the Falcons’ only run of the game. Fahey finished the game with two hits in two at-bats.

Grayson Ricks and Noah Ramirez also each had a hit in the loss.

UP NEXT: The Falcons (7-15-1, 5-14 in Class 2A North league play) and the Mustangs (6-16, 4-14) will play a doubleheader Saturday to conclude the series.
