Genoa, Nev. — A small wildfire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon off Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe was reportedly contained last night. The fire was first reported around 3:30 p.m.

The Gardnerville WalMart is on the list for a makeover this year, according to information released on Wednesday. It appears most of the actual construction work will focus on the pharmacy, according to the company.

A bill before the Nevada Legislature this session that could prohibit the sale of plastic water bottles at Nevada’s Lake Tahoe communities survived the deadline to pass out of the state senate on Tuesday. Douglas is officially opposing Senate Bill 324.

Senate Bill 420 which would allow Lake Tahoe businesses to form a district to pay for improvements also survived Tuesday’s drop-dead date for bills to move out of their house of origin. The bill is being pushed for Incline Village but appears it might also apply to Stateline.

Toddler Time is 9-11 a.m. today at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center for toddlers 9 months to 5 years old. The cost is $3 per child.

If you were planning on attending the inaugural Cosmos in the Desert Dark Skies Festival at Lahontan State Recreation Area on Saturday, the Nevada State Parks and Division of Outdoor Recreation is calling it on account of weather.

April showers are forecast to arrive on Friday afternoon and stick around into Sunday. The snow level has been revised up to 5,500 feet after midnight Friday.

The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies today with a high temperature around 69 degrees. A light breeze is predicted to pick up out of the west at 5 mph this afternoon.
