Billed as “more fun than you can shake a broom at,” Main Street Gardnerville’s annual Sweep the Town community cleanup event is planned on May 3 from 9 a.m.-Noon.

Volunteers are invited to pitch in and help “clean, repair, and improve public spaces or other areas…that have been neglected, vandalized, or misused.” These sprucing up efforts help ready the downtown corridor for upcoming spring and summer events.

All are welcome, and participants should come prepared with a broom, work gloves, sun hat, sunscreen, and a buddy. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Town of Gardnerville office, 1407 US Hwy 395 N, to sign a waiver and receive a job assignment before heading out. Light snacks will be provided to volunteers.

Prescription Drug Take Back event this weekend

Partnership Douglas County and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office encourage the proper disposal of all expired, unused, or unwanted medications at the Douglas County Rx Take Back Day 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Held twice per year in April and October, Prescription Drug Take Back events offer the public an opportunity to safely and securely dispose of medications, which helps prevent misuse or theft and promotes a healthier, safer community.

Over-the-counter pills and vitamins; prescription liquids, pills, and patches; medication samples, and pet medications can be brought to the event. Medications should be left in the original container with identifying information marked out. Aerosol cans, inhalers, syringes, needles, hydrogen peroxide, ointments, and other liquids will not be accepted.
