Genoa, Nev. — The Carson Valley Business Showcase is 3-6 p.m. today at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center, Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. It’s always a good day to visit with folks and maybe snag some swag along the way.

I’ve got $2 for the Lions to buy my Carson Valley Days button. There’ll be plenty of chances to obtain one over the next two months before the parade as they will be available at Valley businesses.

Douglas County School Board trustees will be tackling their tentative budget 4 p.m. today at Whittell High School. The eight teaching positions eliminated from the budget will come from retirements and resignations, according to the superintendent.

Commissioners will discuss an ordinance implementing a monthly surcharge increase for phone lines to help the 911 revenue fund while also reducing the uncommitted balance down to $500,000 as required by state law. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.

We’re sure the “Floodgate” buttons will be in evidence at today’s county commissioners’ meeting where they’ll discuss eminent domain for Park Ranch Holdings land the county says is needed to built Muller Lane Parkway. I wager that hearing will be after lunch, but that’s a bet, not a fact.

Speaking of bets, the forecast calls for sunny skies and a cooler high temperature of 64 degrees. The wind is predicted to pick up out of the north at 5-10 mph, with the low tonight dipping just below freezing. Friday’s supposed to be a little bit cooler.
