Genoa, Nev. — A winter weather advisory has been issued through 5 p.m. today for the Sierra above Bridgeport with a chance of up to 3 inches of snow at Tioga Pass. Closer to home, there’s a snow level of 7,400 feet in the mountains above Carson Valley rising to 8,000 feet this afternoon.
There is, however, a big difference between having a snow level and having snow, and that’s actual precipitation. A quick scan of the Weather Service’s current conditions indicates none fell since 6:45 a.m. Sunday at any of the gauges on there.
I received a report that a leak caused a water outage in part of the Gardnerville Ranchos on Saturday. My source said water was restored by 6:30 p.m.
Containment on the Davis Fire is 85 percent this morning. The number of structures reported by the National Interagency Coordination Center has dropped to 32, but the cost of fighting the fire is up to $12 million.
There’s a chance of showers today and the radar shows something coming in from the east. Parts of the Valley might see around a tenth of an inch. Otherwise, the forecast calls for a high of 63 degrees and partly sunny skies, The wind is expected out of the west at 5-10 mph.
