Genoa, Nev. — Garret Wilkins & Parrotheads’ tribute to Jimmy Buffet is 6-8 p.m. today in Minden Park as the wrap-up for the Starbucks Carson Valley Roasting Plant & Distribution Center Summer Concert Series.

Chautauquan Kim Harris will close out the 2024 Summer Festival Season 10 a.m. today with a portrayal of matriarch Margaret Ferris Dangberg at the Dangberg Historic Park.

Healing Arenas and Suicide Prevention Network are hosting a second annual Memorial Walk 7-9 p.m. today at Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Anyone who has lost a loved one is invited to participate and to walk with a horse.

The annual Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Department Spaghetti Dinner is 5:30-11 p.m. Saturday at the Fish Springs Fire Department, 2249 Fish Springs Road. Cost $15 for adults and $6 for children. Music by the Melody Makers.

This is going to be a busy weekend with car, craft and art shows across the county and that’s just for starters. Pick up a copy of The Record-Courier and check out the calendar today for only a buck.

Every indication I’ve received is that the Davis Fire is on the ropes, and if the forecast holds, it might see some rain or even snow on Sunday night. The predicted snow level for early Monday morning is 6,900 feet.

I got a whiff of smoke on Thursday morning but couldn’t detect anything this morning. Air quality sensors are indicating in the very good range in Carson Valley, though it climbs as you go north up the 395 corridor.

It’s forecast to be a fairly nice weekend with sunny skies and a high temperature of 85 degrees on Saturday and 77 degrees on Sunday. Sunny skies are forecast for today with a high of 82 degrees.
