Temple Bat Yam, the Jewish Community of South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley, marks another new year starting with Rosh Hashanah Services tonight at Sand Harbor on Lake Tahoe.
"We are a community that serves the needs of Jewish residents of the area and those visiting. High Holy Day services and celebrations are open to anyone and free of charge," members said.
The High Holy Days is the time of year in the Jewish calendar observing Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).
“It is a season filled with reflection and prayer on the past year,” temple members said. “This spiritual and religious practice urges us to prepare for the coming New Year with renewed purpose and a sense of renewal. May we all have a happy and healthy New Year! L’Shana Tova.”
For Jews in the Carson Valley, there are choices, all of which require a drive.
Temple Bat Yam in South Lake has a regular presence with Friday night services (every couple months) at the Plaza Hotel in Carson City. The Temple sponsored a Hannukah celebration at the CVIC Hall in Minden
Temple Bat Yam is also part of the Tahoe Jewish Community which also includes the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation in Tahoe Vista.
Temple Bay Yam is located at 3260 Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe. Unless otherwise stated, all events are at the temple.
