What does Christmas mean to you personally? If we look at why Jesus came, have we applied those reasons to our lives? Sometimes in the midst of all the busyness of the Christmas season the very reason we celebrate Christmas gets lost in all the other stuff associated with it. I am not against presents, parties, parades, decorations and all the other things that we get involved with, but are we so distracted we miss the power of the event?
The scriptures say much about why Jesus came. Jesus said the most about why He came. Jesus said 22 times directly why He came. With that in mind let’s take a look and just see what He had to say about it. As we take this journey, see if there are things that He has promised that you are not receiving.
John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Luke 4:16-21
Preach the gospel.
Heal the brokenhearted.
Preach deliverance to the captives.
Recovery of sight to the blind.
Set at liberty those who are oppressed.
Preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:43 Preach the Kingdom of God.
Luke 19:1-10 To seek and save that which was lost.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
John 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
Jesus in His own words has promised, to all those who have received Him many great and powerful things. If you are not receiving the benefits of those promises, pray they become a reality to you and your family. The things of God cannot be found in this world, they always come up empty. Jesus is all we need for life and Godliness. If Jesus is not enough, you are not giving Jesus enough.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
He will return someday, and He will not come back as a baby, but as the ruler of the universe. May the Lord bless and keep you as you turn your eyes to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Merry Christmas!
