Police tape in front of a home on Dennis Street in Johnson Lane after what was reported as a double shooting.
A woman, who was killed in a shooting on Monday morning, was identified as Kathy Jean Weiland, 63, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The man who was transported from the scene was identified as Gregory Raymond Ward, 63, who is in critical condition at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
Douglas County Sheriff’s investigators believe that Ward shot Weiland and then attempted to shoot himself.
The case is being treated as an active homicide investigation.
Douglas County deputies responded to a report of a shooting 11:08 a.m. Monday at 1321 Dennis St. in Johnson Lane.
Ward was the owner of the home where the shooting occurred, having purchased it in 1998, according to the Douglas County Recorder’s Office.
He and his father operated Topaz Wood Works
Weiland was the daughter of Gardnerville resident Shirley Ann Weiland Anderson, who died Oct. 5, 2021. Anderson arrived in Carson Valley in 1987 with Tombstone Pizza magnate Ron Simek.
Weiland listed the address on Dennis Street when her mother died.
She was the trustee for a home in Pleasantview that was sold in a trustee sale in October, according to the Douglas County Assessor’s Office.
