Genoa, Nev. — Removal of a 10.5-acre school site from the Virginia Ranch subdivision will wait on approval of an agreement between the School Board and the developer within the year. If the board agrees, the developer would provide eight homes for “teacherages.” If not the site will sit there until the School District buys it to build a school.

The annual Holy Smokers Barbecue and Car Show starts its engines at 8 a.m. Saturday across Douglas Avenue from Trinity Lutheran Church. Also on Saturday, admission is free to the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center on Saturday. Carson Valley Arts Council’s last concert is Saturday night.


The Minden Branch of the Douglas County Public Library was packed on Thursday with young Star Wars fans battling with inflatable light sabers.


If you’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo today with some margaritas or other libation, please designate a driver or call a cab. This spring has been safer on the roads than last year, and it would be nice to have everyone back safe on Monday.


The calendar year precipitation in Minden tied the 2017 record for Cinco de Mayo at 13.84 inches since Jan. 1. The Douglas County seat reports .45 inches so far in May. I’ve recorded .75 inches in my gauge in Genoa since the beginning of the month.


Skies are forecast to clear a bit this afternoon, though the high temperature is expected to hit 55 degrees. The wind will shift west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. It looks like Saturday might be a lot like today from the forecast.
