Leah McBroom and Ella Kavanagh each left Las Vegas with a state title after competing in the USA Nevada Folkstyle State Championships over the weekend.

McBroom ran through the girls under-10 bracket with three wins all via the pin.

All three of McBroom’s pins came in the first period.

McBroom had to qualify for the event with a top-two finish at regionals in Fallon the weekend prior to the tournament.

The fourth grader also competed in the boys bracket where she finished second overall.

Her only loss came to the eventual champion in the boys under-10 bracket.

It is the first year McBroom has wrestled.

On her flight home, McBroom even received a note of praise from her Southwest flight crew as well as a shout out over the plane’s intercom.

Kavanagh also earned a state title in folkstyle as well, going 2-0 with a pair of pins.

The Tiger freshman also wrestled in the Greco state championships as well, taking second place.
