A four-day trial is set for Nov. 27-Dec. 1 after a man denied an accusation he revealed a pistol when confronted by Walmart store security the day before New Year’s Eve.
Curtis James Lee Brahic, 30, appeared Tuesday in Douglas County District Court where he denied felony charges of robbery with a deadly weapon and burglary of a business.
On Jan. 4, Douglas County released a photo of a suspect and vehicle in connection with the Dec. 30 theft that led to Brahic’s identification and arrest at a Reno casino on Jan. 10.
He said he posted $25,000 bail and had to put up another $10,000 security when he was released on Jan. 11.
Brahic told District Judge Tod Young he’d since moved to Minden. He will be supervised by the Department of Alternative Sentencing pending trial. He was ordered to attend a pre-trial hearing on Nov. 7.
• A Gardnerville man denying felony charges of child abuse or neglect and domestic battery with strangulation will await trial in custody.
Carlos Anthony Diaz Jr., 26, was in court on July 11 with his attorney where he entered not guilty pleas to the charges.
Prosecutor Chelsea Mazza opposed a request to reinstate Diaz’ bail after he admitted using cocaine and marijuana while out of custody.
Mazza said that a Facebook post appeared to be an attempt by Diaz to communicate with his children, something he is not permitted to do.
Diaz was arrested after a May 6 conflict with the mother of his three children and is accused of choking her during a struggle at his home. Deputies testified that the survivor had handprints on her neck.
A Nov. 6-9 trial has been set for both the felonies and a misdemeanor domestic battery.
• A 22-year-old woman is denying she burglarized a Topaz Ranch Estates home in April.
A three-day Sept. 27 trial has been set in the case against Kyli Alexandria Mastrian, who appeared in Douglas County District Court on July 11.
Mastrian appeared uncertain when she appeared in court on June 27, admitting the charge before balking when the judge asked if she committed the offense.
She remains in custody pending trial.
