Icy conditions resulted in Highway 88 near the turnoff to the Dangberg Home Ranch being closed as officials cleared multiple vehicles that had slid into a ditch.

Light snow drifted onto the highway on Wednesday night and melted only to turn into ice as skies cleared on Thursday morning.

Highway 88 is a popular route for those commuting from the Gardnerville Ranchos to points north, as well as a major route for students heading for Douglas High School.

Firefighters discovered three vehicles in the ditch between County Road and Mottsville Lane on their way south to investigate a 7:36 a.m. collision near Kimmerling Road.

There was also a report of a tow truck off the highway.

At Lake Tahoe, authorities responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with a school bus. There was no report of injuries.

While chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 from Carson City south to the state line, there are no controls listed by the state on Highway 88.

Snow fell for a couple of hours on Thursday before clearing around dawn.

Roads are slick across the county.
