Genoa, Nev. — It’s dumping snow in both the Sierra and Pine Nuts this morning as a new winter weather advisory kicked in at 1 a.m. It was mostly rain in Carson Valley until around 5 a.m.


Chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 from Gardnerville south to Topaz Lake. CalTrans announced it was closing the highway through Mono County due to white-out conditions. Add four-wheel drive to the requirements if you’re planning a jaunt into the mountains today.


A portion of the Holiday Lodge’s roof collapsed in Minden, county officials confirmed on Wednesday evening. The Lodge was built in 1965, according to the Douglas County Assessor’s Office. Word is four rooms have been rendered unsafe.


Members of the Douglas County Search & Rescue Team were kept busy on the slopes on Wednesday as skiers took advantage of a break in the weather and restoration of power.


There are still 13 outages affecting 63 NV Energy customers. A third of those may see power restored this morning, but the rest will wait until tonight depending on the storm. Workers had Jacks Valley Lane down to one lane on Wednesday evening near the Washoe House.


We’re going to see how the bomb cyclone stacks up against the Tonopah low today. My bet is the Nevadan will have had by far the bigger impact in Carson Valley.


The forecast calls for rain and snow before 10 a.m. today and then a chance of rain and snow after 1 p.m. The high temperature is expected to hit 42 degrees with the wind out of the south at 10-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
