Genoa, Nev. — A petition to ban vacation home rentals from residential neighborhoods has been filed with the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office. Organizer Jeanne Shizuru said at the Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board on Wednesday that gathering signatures at Lake Tahoe should be like “shooting fish in a barrel.”
It’s a fair bet that Shizuru’s spouse, Dave Nelson, will be seeking to retake his seat on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners next year. Nelson was defeated by Danny Tarkanian by 17 votes in the 2020 Republican Primary.
The people I’ve talked to about the Debt Management Commission’s rejection of the financing of a new judicial center on Wednesday are still working to figure out what’s next for the project, if anything.
Mumbo Gumbo is performing tonight in Minden Park wrapping up the Bently Concert Series for 2023. The concert starts at 6 p.m., but I bet there will be a crowd of chairs long before that.
The River Fork Ranch on Genoa Lane is hosting a nature journaling session 1-2 p.m. Saturday. Lorna Burkhard will guide participants in drawing sunflowers. Suggested donation is $15 a person or $30 for a family of three.
There were definitely some clouds on what was forecast to be a sunny day on Thursday. Up in the Sierra .1 inches of rain was recorded overnight in spots from Blue Lakes to Hagan’s Meadow.
Sunny skies are once more in the forecast for today, but I wager the clouds will return later this evening bringing a very slight chance of thunderstorms. Today’s high is predicted to be around 85 degrees with the wind picking up out of the southwest at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
