Reno-Tahoe Territory Chairman David Peterson, Reno-Tahoe Territory Excellence in Tourism Award Winner Jan Vandermade, and Nevada Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony at the Excellence in Tourism Awards at Travel Nevada's Rural Roundup conference in Mesquite.

Carson Valley Visitors Authority Executive Director Jan Vandermade received the Reno-Tahoe Territory Excellence in Tourism Award from the Nevada Division of Tourism on April 12.

Vandermade received the award during the 30th annual Rural Roundup conference at Eureka Casino Resort in Mesquite.

“It is my privilege to recognize these esteemed tourism professionals and honor them with these awards,” said Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs Director Brenda Scolari. “Nevada’s tourism industry is stronger than ever, and the efforts this group has contributed to the state is remarkable. We thank them for their dedication to the industry and all partners for their ongoing collaboration and support.”

Vandermade has led the Valley’s Visitor’s Bureau since July 2016. In this capacity, he is responsible for the development and execution of the long-term vision and annual business development plan for the East Fork Township portion of Douglas County.

He has served as territory’s representative to the Reno Air Service Committee and was instrumental as the chairman of the communications committee to navigate the territory through complexities during the pandemic.

The annual conference for Nevada’s tourism industry is scheduled to return to Lake Tahoe next year.
