Highway 395 through Gardnerville was closed for several hours overnight Thursday while Gardnerville Water Co. crews raced to fix a watermain break.

Water started bubbling up through a crack in the northbound lanes of the highway around 3:50 p.m. near the intersection with Cemetery Lane.

Water Co. Manager Mark Lovelady said the break occurred on a 2-inch service line where it attached to the 10-inch main.

He said the company sought help from several contractors but were able to complete the job with the help of the manager of the Minden Gardnerville Sanitation District and two workers.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reported all lanes of Highway 395 were closed at 4:46 p.m. Thursday.

Motorists were diverted down Spruce and Deseret around the closure.

The county reported that Highway 395 was closed from Gilman Avenue to Buckeye Road at around 7:30 p.m.

Water was restored to full pressure by 11:30 p.m. with the highway’s two outer lanes reopened by 11:45 p.m., Lovelady said.

Repairs to the highway will be coordinated with the state.

By dawn Friday, there was a steel plate in the road where workers worked on the water line and the center three lanes were coned off.

East Fork firefighters, Douglas deputies, the Nevada State Police and Nevada Department of Transportation responded to the incident.
