Saturday’s Galloping Gala fundraiser to help Between Horses and Humans was canceled on Wednesday afternoon due to unforeseen circumstances, organizers said.

“Weather was one factor but there were other factors as well,” Program Manager Jeannette Bostedt said on Friday. “At the end of the day I think it is a difficult time for fundraising. It was a difficult and disappointing decision for our team.”

This is the third year in a row the local nonprofit offering equine-based healing for children and youth has had to cancel its major fundraiser.

The gala was one of many events that succumbed to the coronavirus outbreak.

“We were really looking forward to seeing and thanking you in person and we want you to know that we are re-imagining ways for us to celebrate together again in the future,” organizers said in a social media post. “However, we are hopeful that you will still support us to continue our important work-improving the lives of vulnerable youth in our community-by helping us to meet our $15,000 fundraising goal.”

Those who have purchased tickets will be contacted, according to the post.

The return of Between Horses and Human’s Galloping Gala will include a barn dance, along with food from Bella Vita Catering and dancing lessons from Miss Behavin Honeys of Reno.

The fundraiser is 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Maddi’s Friesian Ranch, 310 Allerman Lane, Gardnerville. Between Horses and Humans is a local nonprofit offering equine-based healing for children and youth facing major life challenges.

“Children in our program learn leadership and life skills through horsemanship. Serving youth from the Carson Valley and South Lake Tahoe areas, this program is referred by area schoolteachers, counselors, therapists, as well as referrals from the local community who have seen the difference that making a connection with our fabulous equines can make.”

Like many other nonprofits, Horses and Humans were unable to hold live fundraising events over the past two years and is excited to resume their annual in-person gala.

Tickets are $100 per person or $900 for a table of 10, and can be purchased at BHHevents.org
