Heritage Park Gardens work to “grow” the community with the help of volunteers and a variety of events throughout the year.

The plant fair was a big success on Saturday morning offering a spot where people could learn about what what the gardens offer in Gardnerville.

“We just want to encourage everybody to grow their own food source and just kind of get back to nature. It’s good to dig in the soil,” said Donna Werner.

The garden consists of a growing bed area, the labrant, a children’s garden, a medicinal garden and an ABC garden.

The garden beds are rented out to people for the season who may not have room to grow their own food at home. The gardens provide water and soil for the plants. The renters are expected to come down and maintain their garden beds.

Heritage Park Gardens volunteers not only sprinkle around soil, but kindness as well.

The garden contains a kindness rock garden. The volunteers get together once a month to paint rocks. People may take a rock and put it somewhere in the community for others to find.

The garden will be having food trucks and music during Wind Down Wednesdays held on the fourth Wednesday of every month. This starts on May 25 and will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A new class is starting soon and will be held every Wednesday night from 5:30 -6:30 p.m. to educate on growing, pest control and pruning etc.

Heritage Park Gardens is located at 1461 Ezell St. in Gardnerville and is welcome to everyone who wants to check it out.

“We just have a passion for growing things and we love our community,” said Werner.
