Aaron Ford

Record of service:
I am proudly serving as Nevada’s 34th Attorney General, and the first African American to hold statewide constitutional office in Nevada.
A former State Senator, I previously served as both the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader in the Nevada State Legislature and held leadership roles on several legislative committees. I also spent many years in private practice as a partner at both Snell & Wilmer LLP and Eglet Adams in Las Vegas. Before practicing law, I served as a public school math teacher, shaping hundreds of lives.

Education
I am proud to have earned five degrees, which include my law degree and Ph.D. in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University, as well as degrees in interdisciplinary studies, international education, and educational administration.

Briefly describe the core duties of the position you are running for.
As the chief law enforcement officer for the state, my primary goal continues to be helping to protect Nevada families. I believe there is no task greater than the pursuit of justice and has adopted the office motto of “Our Job is Justice.”

A brief statement about your platform:
My priority areas include what I refer to as the “Five Cs”: constitutional rights, criminal justice reform, consumer protection, client service, and community engagement. I have held several town hall forums to talk directly with Nevadans on relevant topics such as racial injustice, law enforcement policies, hate crimes, and identity theft. Under my direction, our office has made protecting consumers from fraud, scams, and anti-competitive activity a top priority. During my tenure in office, our Bureau of Consumer Protection secured over $85 million in recoveries on behalf of Nevada consumers. Consistent with my commitment to help Nevada families, I have aggressively pursued those responsible for fueling Nevada’s opioid crisis. I am proud to have obtained the State’s first settlement of $300 million on behalf of countless Nevada families who have lost relatives to opioid abuse.

What makes you the most qualified candidate for this position?
I always strive to help those around me, particularly our most vulnerable communities — and as the chief law enforcement officer for the state, my goal continues to be helping to protect Nevada families.
Under my direction, my office has made protecting consumers from fraud, scams, and anti-competitive activity a top priority — securing over $85 million in recoveries on behalf of Nevada consumers, as well as nearly $330 million on behalf of countless Nevada families who have lost relatives to opioid abuse. Additionally, I have held two statewide law enforcement summits with local and national experts to fight human trafficking; I helped lead Nevada’s sexual assault kit initiative and am proud to have completed the State’s initiative to test nearly 8,000 previously untested sexual assault kits; I worked with my prosecutors to revive a cold case and bring justice for a Nevada mother who lost her daughter to a brutal murder more than 40 years ago; and in the wake of the 2020 elections, I successfully represented Nevada’s Secretary of State during multiple lawsuits from the Trump campaign and state GOP – including a lawsuit seeking to temporarily halt the counting of election ballots in Clark County.
My experience has shaped my philosophy that in order to create safer communities throughout our great state, we must have strong working relationships with law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim advocates. As Nevada’s Attorney General and California’s chief law officer, I am the “attorney for the people” and hold those who break the law – especially those in positions of power – accountable and wins justice for Nevada families. I know that enforcing the law and public service is about helping people, making people’s lives better, and improving the human condition.
