Civil Air Patrol cadets from the Douglas County Composite Squadron were treated to a meet and greet with a C-17 crew from the Alaska Air National Guard while on a stop in Minden to support the large-scale exercise that took place in late April.

The crew briefed the cadets on their position in the aircraft, what it takes to get to those positions, and other job types available in the Air National Guard and active-duty Air Force.

Several Cadets nearing or in college received valuable information on application procedures specific to pilot training in the Air Guard.

Douglas cadets were joined by Carson City cadets to take a familiarization trip around the HH-60 helicopters that were deployed to Minden-Tahoe Airport for the exercise.

“The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is designed to develop the future leaders of America,” said Deputy Commander for Cadet Programs Larry Goss. “The goal is to instill self confidence and self discipline to travel from follower to leader. CAP core values include integrity, volunteer service, excellence, and respect.”

Youth ages 12-18 may join the program.

Cadets at the Douglas Squadron meet 6 p.m. every Tuesday night at the Minden-Tahoe Airport.
