Genoa, Nev. — East Fork fire officials met with the U.S. Forest Service in preparation for fire season and the prospect for this summer is similar to last year’s megafires. Chief Tod Carlini said “campaign fires” are becoming more frequent.


Kirkwood, Calif., has been recognized as a Firewise Community by the National Fire Protection Association for having a valid plan to improve fire safety. Kirkwood had a brush with the Caldor Fire, which burned right up to the dam at Caples Lake.


A celebration of life is 11 a.m. Saturday for East Valley resident Robert Glover Purvis, 66, who was identified on Monday as the victim of a Lyon County motorcycle accident by the Nevada State Police. The service will be at Life Point Church on Stephanie Way.


There is still some snow on the roads up at Lake Tahoe, though not enough to prompt chain controls over Spooner or Kingsbury. Higher locations have restrictions, including highways 88 and 50, Interstate 80 and Highway 28 to Incline.


The forecast calls for flurries between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. today with the temperature struggling toward 50 degrees. Otherwise, expect partly sunny skies, with southwest winds 5-10 mph. There might be a little thunder.
