Genoa, Nev. — Chain controls are in effect over Kingsbury Grade and Spooner Summit this morning. The nvroads.com traffic cameras are down across Lake Tahoe so it’s hard to say precisely what conditions are like upstairs. Take it easy through the mountains.

There’s a wind alert through Washoe Valley this morning, so brace for a bumpy commute if you’re headed to Reno. I ran into the road work on Kingsbury on Friday. They aren’t kidding about 30-minute delays, so give yourself a little extra, extra time if you are headed to Stateline.

I expect we’ll hear more about the fatal incidents at Topaz Lake and near Double Spring Flat south of Gardnerville today or Tuesday. I spoke with the Nevada State Police public information officer on Sunday morning and he’s swamped catching up with five fatal collisions from over the last two weeks across Western Nevada.

There’s about a quarter inch of dry powder on my deck in Genoa this morning. It snowed on and off all afternoon here on Mother’s Day. If you hooked up the hoses to water, it would be a good idea to unhook them today before the low hits 21 degrees tonight.

The forecast calls for scattered snow showers after 2 p.m. today with some thunder. Otherwise expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 48 degrees. The southwest wind will pick up to 10-15 mph this afternoon, gusting to 25 mph.
