Two virtual public meetings have been scheduled to take comment on the proposed Painted Rock Mine above Johnson Lane.

A public comment period is open on the proposal through May 31, according to a notice published in The Record-Courier on Saturday.

Knox Excavating is seeking to lease 148.8 acres of Washoe Tribal allotment land to mine aggregate over the next 35 years.

At its peak, the mine would produce a half-million tons of sand and gravel a year, which would be hauled down Johnson Lane.

A draft environmental assessment has been posted to the site, paintedrockmineea.com
