The Top of The R-C Morning Report

Topaz Ranch Estates photographer John Flaherty captured the full Worm moon this morning. Somehow having a full moon on St. Patrick's Day seems like it might be a formula for shenanigans.

Genoa, Nev. — A couple of Douglas folks filed for Assembly District 39 on Wednesday, including nonpartisan Ruhenstroth resident Charles Holt and Gardnerville Democrat Janice Noble. Foothill resident Heather MacDonnell filed for Douglas County clerk-treasurer prompting another countywide Republican primary.

Friday is the last day of filing, but that won’t wrap up until after Saturday’s R-C has gone to bed. I’ll do a wrap-up online and then another in print on Wednesday.

Douglas County commissioners are meeting 10 a.m. today, and unless the meeting goes off the rails, they should be done by noon. The revised vacation home rental ordinance will be introduced today, so there won’t be much in the way of discussion until the second reading. To find out more, visit www.douglascountynv.gov and click on agendas for more information.

The Nevada State Police (I’m having a little trouble adapting to the new name) will be on the lookout over the next five days for drunken drivers. It’s not a coincidence that enforcement effort starts on St. Patrick’s Day. If you’re going to imbibe, designate a driver or call for a ride.

Firefighters are observing St. Baldrick’s Day today by raising money to treat childhood cancer. Tahoe Douglas Firefighters will be at Mc P’s Taphouse 1-4 p.m. in South Lake. Carson City firefighters are at McFadden Plaza 2-4 p.m. You can find out more at stbaldricks.org

Members of the Republican Central Committee will trade their red for green today in the search for voters. They’ll be out registering voters and reminding registered voters to check their registration.

Saturday night’s storm is expected to bring 1-3 inches of snow above 5,000 feet and to the Tahoe Basin, and less than an inch for the foothills. It’s mostly going to be windy on Saturday with 40-50 mph gusts in wind-prone locations.

Today it’s forecast to be cloudy then clearing this afternoon with a high of around 59 degrees. The southwest wind will help usher the clouds out at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
