Middle school kids dosed by THC gummies

A 12-year-old middle school student who said she was feeling strange led to the revelation that several students consumed THC gummies on Thursday.

The girl came to the school office saying she felt very strange, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

A school resource officer started asking around and found out that several students had eaten gummy bears that contain THC, the psychoactive drug in marijuana.

The gummy bears were stolen from the parent of another student, who brought them to school.

“Although this was a severe case, it is fortunate that this was not more severe,” Douglas County Sheriff’s officials said. “Counterfeit prescription pills that contain fentanyl are being smuggled into the country from Mexico and routinely encountered by the DCSO Patrol Division and the local narcotics enforcement units. The counterfeit pills encountered locally are usually blue and have M-30 stamped on them, but they could be made to look like any legitimate prescription or non-prescription pill.”

Officials reminded parents to tell their children not to consume anything they get from someone other than their family.

Possession of marijuana is legal for adults 21 and older. Parents should  take steps to keep edibles away from children.
