Two weeks after celebrating 40 years of service, the Family Support Council received a $40,000 donation from Beverly Reality.

Coincidently, the total had nothing to do with the celebration, but owner of Beverly Reality, Beverly Johnson said nonprofits rely on community support and wanted to help out where she could.

“It’s like survival money,” said Johnson. “Right now, because of the pandemic, cost of living and general expenses, they’re struggling a bit to be able to do the work they do and help those who need help.”

This is not the first time Johnson has backed the Family Support Council.

“We’re very appreciative of Bev,” said Family Support Council Executive Director Veronica LaChance. “It’s beyond appreciated the amount of work she has put into us and the organization.”

Johnson served on the Family Support Council board for 10 years and is a past president. In September she helped the organization move into their current location in Gardnerville and has provided as much support as she can over the years.

“My heart has always been with Family Support, they do such good work,” said Johnson.

The Family Support Council provides confidential and free support, resources, referrals and education services while advocating for victims of violence, provide shelter for adult and children victims and services for individuals with disabilities, mental illnesses and traumatic brain injuries.

“Nonprofits rely on the community to do the work they do,” said Johnson. “The more the community can do to help them, the more they can do to help the community.”
