Genoa, Nev. — The National Weather Service reported nearly 100 lightning ground strikes Tuesday afternoon and evening over far eastern Douglas County and in Lyon County. A breezy afternoon could breathe some life into some of those spots, prompting a fire.


Planning commissioners recommended an ordinance amendment to make it clear that religious assemblies are authorized in the Lake Tahoe mixed use zoning district as a matter of right, instead of requiring a special use permit. They also approved a resolution converting part of the Riverwood project to senior living.


Minden Town Board members are scheduled to discuss its ongoing voluntary systemwide watering restrictions and water distribution improvements in Heybourne Meadows phase IIIB off Buckeye Road. The town board meets 5:30 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall.


Air quality levels from the Washburn Fire smoke are moderate this morning as the fire continues to belch out smoke near Yosemite National Park. Firefighters lost some containment from 22 to 17 percent as the fire has grown to 3,772 acres.


Minden-Tahoe Airport recorded 97 degrees on Tuesday making it the hottest day of 2022, so far. The record for the day was set last year with 101 degrees, so it could be worse.


Cooler will be a relative term today with the forecast high at 93 degrees. Expect a southwest wind of 15-20 mph this afternoon, gusting to 30 mph. Widespread haze is expected increase after 5 a.m. Thursday, so if you’re up early, you might be able to get the house buttoned up before it gets too bad.
