Genoa, Nev. — My reading of the federal fire mapping site show the Washburn Fire isn’t slowing down a lick. That means whether we get smoke or not is at the mercy of the winds, and those won’t be kind tonight, according to the forecast.


As we learned last summer with Tamarack, the Fire Information for Resource Management fire detection maps don’t so much indicate where the fire is as where it wants to go. I used the measuring tool at firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov on the Electra Fire and came within 25 acres of the eventual size.


Nevada Emergency Manager and former East Fork Deputy Chief Dave Fogerson has been named an alternate state representative to the federal Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission.


I got word Sunday the CV 12U Allstars won their regional tournament. Carson Valley kids have been knocking it out of the park on the Little League front, and congratulations are in order.


A small fire in Gardnerville broke out around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night burning near Concho Trail and Gardnerville. It produced quite a smoke plume from reports I heard. Firefighters said it appeared to have been started by a campfire, which could have been from a transient or some kids enjoying an adventure.


Douglas County Sheriff’s Office’s Records Division at the Judicial Law Enforcement Center will be closed today and will reopen on Tuesday morning. For most folks, that means no fingerprinting today, but they do a lot of other stuff, too.

It’s going to warm up to 96 degrees today, according to the forecast. The zephyr won’t save us, either, with the breeze 5-10 mph this afternoon. Expect the smoke to return after midnight.
