Genoa, Nev. — A proposal to repeal the Vacation Home Rental ordinance was removed from the agenda by a 3-2 vote and didn’t get a hearing. Proponent Walt Nowosad got to read a portion of a statement but was shut down when it started to stray away from the actual rentals.


A compromise is in the works for revision of the sprinkler ordinance that sounds like it’s going to work for all sides. That ordinance was never about saving homes in a wildfire, but saving lives in a house fire and maybe keeping that fire from spreading to the wildland.


The Sierra Sun is reporting Thursday’s 12-acre grass fire at Truckee was set by a woman who is now in custody. Meanwhile, over near Jackson the Electra Fire is reported to be 60 percent contained. It’s still burning, but the fire mapping shows it’s shrinking.


Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans told commissioners that the one vote Joey Gilbert got in the recount came from a candidate for governor other than Joe Lombardo. Gilbert has said he will sue now that the recount is complete.


The high temperature topped out at 88 degrees on Thursday and is forecast to hit the same today before it starts to warm into the 90s on Sunday and 96 on Tuesday. The heat might generate some thunderstorms by Thursday.
