Genoa, Nev. — With Candy Dance only three months away, Genoans are preparing for one of the year’s largest single events in Carson Valley. On Wednesday night, the Genoa Town Board confirmed parking costs will be $10 and discussed changing the price structure for the dinner dance that gives the event its name.

The county has started receiving applications for Genoa Town manager. Recruitment for the position closes 4 p.m. July 22. It and other jobs are posted on the county web site at www.governmentjobs.com/careers/douglasconv?

The Electra Fire appears to be running out of steam near Jackson, which may translate into reduced haze in Carson Valley the rest of this week. CalFire reports the fire is 40 percent contained with full containment July 18.

A recount garnered Reno attorney one more vote in Douglas County, which means he lost the county to Sheriff Joe Lombardo by 201 votes, instead of 202. County commissioners are scheduled to finally certify the ballot at their meeting 10 a.m. today.

Also on the agenda are the first reading of proposed changes to the county sprinkler ordinance and a pitch to toss the VHR program. Commissioners meet at the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden. Watch online at www.douglascountynv.gov

Temperatures will remain relatively cool for the season until Sunday when it starts to climb into the 90s. Today expect a high of 85 degrees and breezy with the west wind at 15-20 mph.
