Four East Fork firefighters and a brush truck joined a five-engine strike team from the Tahoe Basin to help fight the 4,500-acre Electra Fire near Jackson. Firefighters made some progress on Tuesday with a line around 5 percent of the fire.


After no one showed up to defend a petition calling for an events ban for Mountain View Park or an event, the Gardnerville Town Board voted to deny the request. Besides the Aug. 20 dedication of the Martin Slough Trail, there aren’t any events planned for the area.


There are rules, though, which were revised by town board members on Tuesday, including no swimming. Though it’s possible people may kayak or paddleboard on the pond, which is around 4 fathoms at its deepest point and is the largest body of water along the trail.


Douglas County reports 30 people were arrested over the Fourth of July weekend, including one for unlawful use of fireworks. There were 11 arrests for drug possession, eight for DUI and seven for minors consuming alcohol. Most everyone had bailed out by Tuesday morning.


Genoans will be busy at their 5:30 p.m. meeting today, including hearing an update on the recruitment of a new manager and what to do with the $10,000 in federal funds the county approved for the Town Church. The town board meets in the historic Raycraft Hall.


Regional Transportation commissioners are meeting 4 p.m. today to discuss the five-year plan and possibly awarding a $494,000 road sealing contract with Sierra Nevada Construction for seven miles of county road around Carson Valley.


We may have received some smoke from the Electra Fire with air quality monitors in Minden in the moderate range. Expect a high temperature of 84 degrees with widespread haze after 5 p.m. The Zephyr will bring winds 10-15 mph gusting to 25 mph.
