Forestry seeking pre-proposal applications for restoration grants

The Nevada Division of Forestry is accepting pre-proposals for several competitive grants for restoration projects in the state.
A spokesman said the projects are for science-based restoration of landscapes to protect communities and ecosystems from wildfires, floods, insect and disease outbreaks, invasive species and watershed destruction.
The first category is Landscape Scale Restoration projects to improve or restore rural forests and rangelands, riparian areas and wildlife habitat. Projects to mitigate wildfire dangers are also eligible for grants up to $300,000.
The deadline for applications is March 1. Program coordinator Michelle Roberts is at 684-2552 or miroberts@forestry.nv.gov
Forestry is also seeking State Fire Assistance and Hazardous Fuel-community Protection program grant pre-proposals that are also worth $300,000 apiece. The projects would reduce hazardous wildfire fuels and create community wildfire protection plans.
Those pre-proposal applications are also due March 1 at or before 5 p.m. The coordinator is Barry Stone at 684-2511 or barry-stone@forestry.nv.gov.
