A record $179.8 million in wagers were placed on Sunday’s Super Bowl, according to information released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board on Monday.

The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20, after a game that remained close until the fourth quarter.

The Rams were 4-point favorites going into Sunday’s game.

Nevada sports books reported a $15.4 million win, amounting to 8.6 percent of the total bet.

That’s more than last year’s $12.5 million win but not has much as the 2020 Super Bowl, which saw an $18.7 million win.

The biggest win in the last 18 years was the 43-8 drubbing Seattle gave the Denver Broncos, which resulted in the sports books hauling in $19.6 million, or 16.5 percent of the total bet.

One of the worst days for the sports books in the 21st Century was the 2008 upset victory of the New York Giants over the New England Patriots, where the sports books actually lost $2.5 million.

According to a review of figures dating back to 2005, betting trends higher for Nevada sports books when the game involves a regional team.

The Super Bowl is scheduled to be played in the new Raiders stadium in Las Vegas in 2024.
