Genoa, Nev. — Health officials are reporting a coronavirus outbreak among several people who attended last week’s Kirkwood 50th anniversary in the old lodge. Alpine County Health Officer Richard Johnson said there were about 200 people at the event.


Motorists heading from Carson City to Lake Tahoe on Highway 50 got a bit bigger overnight after state workers replaced the 72-square-foot sign with a 224-square-foot sign that will allow for longer alerts. About 14,000 vehicles use the highway every day.


Pile burning off Jackson Ranch Road near Fredericksburg started on Thursday morning. The Bureau of Land Management said they’ll be burning on the 5-acre site for a while.


County offices are going to be open today, but closed on Monday, so if you’ve got pressing business, it might be a good plan to handle it before the long weekend.


The Christmas Eve edition of The R-C is essentially to bed, no doubt with visions of sugar plums dancing in its head (lines). We’re wrapping up work at noon today for the Christmas weekend.


It doesn’t seem to me like it rained at my place, but it’s hard to say since the snow is still melting everywhere. It seems fairly sunny out this morning, with just a few high clouds. Today’s high is forecast to hit 49 degrees with the southwest wind dying down before lunch time.
