The Carson Valley United Methodist Church Bell Choir will perform in the courtroom of the Genoa Courthouse Museum 4 p.m. today. 

The museum will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Santa there 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to organizer Sharon Hoelscher Day.

The museum is located at Main and 5th streets across from Mormon Station State Historic Park.

The building served as the Douglas County Courthouse for just over a half century after it was built in 1865 just after Nevada achieved statehood. It was destroyed in the 1910 fire but rebuilt and used until the county seat was moved to Minden in 1916. It then served as the Genoa school house until the Douglas County Historical Society took it over in the 1960s.


Chancel Choir performs Sunday

On Sunday, the Chancel Choir will perform 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.

Featured will be a “A Weary World Rejoices,” a Christmas cantata by Joseph M. Martin.  

“There will be familiar carols, with some beautiful variations, and some amazing new selections that will guide us through to the birth of the Christ child,” organizers said.

The church is located at 1375 Centerville Lane.


Reach for Joy meal distribution Dec. 17

Reach for Joy will be providing free Christmas meals that can feed up to four people for those in need 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 17 at High Sierra Fellowship, 1250 Gilman Ave., in Gardnerville.

“We will be distributing 2,000 bags to organizations that pass them out to their clients and our team will be delivering them to low-income areas as well,” said Team Leader Kara Miller. 


Home Ranch tours offered

Guided tours of the historic Dangberg Home Ranch House are being conducted by reservation through Dec. 18.

Antique toys and other artifacts belonging to the Dangberg family, some related to Christmas, will be on display.

Cost for tours is $10 adults, $5 for members, free for 16 and younger. Call 775-783-9417 for reservations and more information.


Max’s Pets posts gift tree

The annual DAWG Holiday Gift Tree is back at Max’s Pet Supplies (next door to Raley’s) for the 18th year. 

Benefitting the dogs and cats at the Douglas County Animal Shelter and FISH in the Gardnerville Ranchos the gift tree will bhe available through Dec. 31. Call 775-782-8088 to learn what pet food and items will best help the organizations dogs and cats.
