Under the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, the Rotary Club of Minden sponsors exchange students from around the world.

This year the Club is excited to sponsor a young woman from a small urban city in Austria.

“I hope I don’t get lost here. It’s so spread out,” said Alexandra, when asked for her first impression of the county.

She will be spending this next school year as a junior at Douglas High School, and she has already tried out for and made the varsity volleyball team.

Marsha Leeg, co-President of the Minden Club, notes that the Youth Exchange gives 15-19-year-olds the opportunity to experience other cultures firsthand.

“The program spreads goodwill around the world,” said Leeg.

Local residents volunteer to house a Youth Exchange participant in their homes for all or part of the time the participant spends in the foreign place.

Anyone interested in volunteering as a future host family in Douglas County should contact Rotary Club of Minden.
