Public Meeting Announcement

The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) as lead, along with the Bureau

of Land Management (BLM) and Douglas County as cooperating

agencies, are announcing the availability of a Draft Environmental

Assessment (EA) for the Proposed Painted Rock Mine. The proposed

project consists of an approximately 35-year phased development of

an aggregate mine operation on an Indian-owned allotment as administered

by BIA. The proposed project is in Douglas County approximately

seven miles northeast of Minden, Nevada.

The BIA is now in the 30-day public comment period on the Draft EA

that ends on May 31, 2022. In accordance with recent interim guidance

for public participation processes during COVID-19 (U.S. Department

of the Interior 2020), the BIA will hold virtual public meetings to take

comment on the Draft EA. These meetings are open to the public and

all interested parties are encouraged to attend.

All who wish to attend one or both virtual meetings and make a verbal

comment on the content of the Draft EA should pre-register using the

Specific instructions on how to participate are also available on the

project website at www.paintedrockmineea.com. A PowerPoint presentation

will also be posted for download for those unable to view the

presentation live. Each meeting will begin at the scheduled start time

with introductions and a brief presentation, followed by an open forum

to make statements on the content of the Draft EA. The meetings will

be recorded for administrative purposes.

on the project website at any time during the comment period at:
